Market Research 101 — Steal Like an Artist

You do not need to reinvent the wheel. Success leaves clues. If a specific topic went viral for your competitor last week, it is because the market wants that topic. Most people post based on "gut feeling." We post based on Data. Your goal is to identify the "Winners" in your niche, audit their top-performing content, and reverse-engineer their strategy to make it better. This is not plagiarism; it is Market Validation.

Key Takeaways

  • • You do not need to reinvent the wheel.

The 3 Tiers of Competitors

To run an effective audit, you need to watch three types of profiles.

1. The Direct Competitor (The Rival)

  • Who: Sells the exact same service to the exact same ICP.
  • Goal: Analyze their Offer and Pricing. How can you position yourself as the "Premium" or "Faster" option?

2. The Indirect Competitor (The Peer)

  • Who: Sells a different service to the same ICP (e.g., You sell SEO; they sell Web Design).
  • Goal: Analyze their Topics. If their audience (which is also your audience) loves posts about "Site Speed," you should write about "Site Speed" from an SEO perspective.

3. The Titan (The Aspirational)

  • Who: Huge influencers (100k+ followers) in your industry.
  • Goal: Analyze their Format. What hooks are they using? Are they doing carousels or video? They have the data to know what works at scale; copy their structures.

The "Outlier" Strategy

When looking at a competitor's profile, ignore the "Average" posts. You are looking for Outliers.

  • The Average: They usually get 50 likes.
  • The Outlier: Suddenly, one post gets 1,200 likes.
  • The Insight: THIS is a Gold Mine. The market has screamed "We love this!" You must write about this topic immediately, but add your unique perspective.

The CreatorHub Advantage: People Analytics (X-Ray)

Manually scrolling through a competitor's feed to find their best posts takes hours. CreatorHub does it in seconds.

Feature: Profile X-Ray

This tool allows you to see the hidden data behind any profile.

The Workflow:

  1. Visit: Go to a competitor's profile.
  2. X-Ray: Click the "Analyze Profile" (People Analytics) button in CreatorHub.
  3. The Reveal: CreatorHub generates a report showing:
  4. Top Performing Posts: A list of their most viral content (sorted by engagement).
  5. Topic Analysis: What themes do they talk about most?
  6. Activity Heatmap: When are they posting?

Feature: Competitor Chat

Don't want to analyze the charts yourself? Just ask.

  • Action: Open the People AI Chat on their profile.
  • Prompt: "What are the top 3 topics that generate the most engagement for this user?"
  • Result: "For User X, posts about 'AI Automation' and 'Zapier' perform 200% better than posts about 'Mindset'." Insight: Write about Zapier.

Examples: The "Remix"

Competitor's Outlier Post:

  • Topic: "Why I stopped using Calendly."
  • Format: Text post. 2,000 Likes.
  • Your Takeaway: The market is frustrated with scheduling tools.

Your "Remix" Strategy:

  • Don't Copy: "Why I stopped using Calendly."
  • Do Improve: "Calendly is great, but [Alternative Tool] converts 20% better. Here is a feature-by-feature comparison (Carousel)."
  • Why it wins: You took the validated interest (Scheduling tools) and added more value (Comparison/Carousel).

Actionable Steps (Homework)

The Hit List

Identify 1 Direct Competitor and 1 Titan in your niche.

The X-Ray

Use CreatorHub to analyze both profiles.

Find the Gold

Locate their #1 Post of the last 3 months.

The Analysis

Ask yourself: * Was it the Hook? (Did they use a specific number?) * Was it the Format? (Was it a PDF?) * Was it the Topic? (Was it controversial?)

Save It

Copy the link to that post and save it in your CreatorHub Kanban under an "Inspiration" column (or use Private Notes on their profile).
